Our Little Bear Cub

We had our check up with my OB today and it was WONDERFUL! :) First, we went over all our test results so far so good we are negative for all our genetic screening. For those you that don't know me this is a HUGE deal for my family. My youngest sister Kateland has Prader-Willi Syndrome, which is a rare genetic disease resulting from a deletion of the 15th chromosome from the father. It is not hereditary, but it is genetic so of course I worry a bit about it. Technology has advanced so much since Kate was born in 1991. It took us 2.5 years before she was diagnosed with PWS. At my very first prenatal appointment when you go through your entire family history I started asking questions if PWS is able to be screened for. My doctor wasn't 100% sure...around this time I gave up google. :( So I will be doing more research after I get my google abilities back. However, to be 100% honest, I wouldn't want to know. I would only want to know about that T one, Trisnomy?, where the baby's never survive and normally cause harm to the mother at birth. The others I wouldn't because it would be too difficult to think about. I lived with a special needs child my entire life and I know what a struggle it is...can I do it? Yes. But that is it. That child will be my entire life. Kateland is such a joy to our entire family and not one of us would change anything about her, however I can see first hand the stress it puts on my Mama and my parent's relationship. It takes extremely strong people, strong in love, strong in faith and extremely strong willed, to be able to raise a special needs child. I admire those individuals the most, because they make the largest sacrifice as parents. Didn't mean to get off on that tangent...if I made anyone tear up sorry!

Happier thoughts! The baby sac (that's what I've decided to call the uterus because it sounds better) is measuring for where we are in our weekly progress. :) My OB then brought out the doppler to hear the heartbeat. Well our little cub decided to hide right by my pulse so we couldn't hear the baby over my pulse, so we did a sonogram to give me some peace of mind. I had spotted a little the week before randomly. So into the room we go. OMG! Our little cub was squirming and kicking up a storm! :) OMG! I'm so freakin' excited! Baby Z's heart rate is 165 bpm which is great for 10ish weeks (ha! like my math!) We also measured the little one and they are measuring right along with our Nov 5th due date! :) Also Baby Z was long enough to have our nuchal translucency test done to screen for down syndrome. A nose bone could be seen in the ultra sound, so that was a good sign.

And here is our little wiggle worm, apparently not in the mood for a picture:

That's a little arm over Baby Z's face and a little leg mid kick over the mid section!

In other fun news...TREATS!! :) So we went home this weekend for my cousin Megan's wedding show which was wonderful BTW. When we got to my folks on Friday my Mama told me they had a few surprises for me. She had gotten me a maternity like tank top (Virginia Tech of course!) for me to wear over the summer. But the best gift was from Kateland. In High School she had to make a pillow in home ec her senior year. Well I've been telling her all about my plans to get this cow print car seat and stroller...LOVE IT! (Pics will come in future posts...PROMISE!) So she gives me this most adorable little pillow for her niece or nephew (her words). And the cutest little tiny baby clothes hanger that I cried when I saw it!

A few weeks back when I got fitted for Meg's bridesmaid dress, we hit up Potomac Mills (for those of you not in the area that's one of our outlet malls!). Carter's was having a sale and look at this cute little purchases. Now before you judge, regardless if we have a boy or girl they will love dinosaurs...why? Because Daddy does :)

June cannot get here fast enough so we can buy more itty bitty baby stuff! :) LOVE IT!

On Saturday my best good friend Casey came to the shower and brought me the cutest and most sweetest goodie basket ever!

Included in the gift basket were these ADORABLE bibs and a piggy bank for Baby Z!

Pregnancy Week 10

My friend Heather did these little weekly updates during her pregancy and I thought it was such a fun idea that I'm borrowing it! :)

Baby Z is now the size of a prune! :)With bones and cartilage starting to form and vital organs beginning to function, Baby Z is making major progress.

Pregnancy Highlights:
Date: April 7, 2010
How Far Along: 10 Weeks
Total Weight Gain/Loss: I've been maintaining my weight over the past few weeks. I credit my husband with ridding our house of unhealthy snack foods :) It is a real perk to work from home and not be as tempted to run over to Wendy's for lunch.
Maternity Clothes: Not yet. However, I can wear one pair of dress pants (my staple for work Wednesday's) and I had to buy a bigger size of jeans. I figured this was a good investment for after I have the baby cause there is no way I'll get back into a size 6. I cannot wait for some stable warm weather...bring on the dresses!
Best Moment this week: Having the most wonderful husband in the world that fixes me lunches and makes food runs for all my cravings! I love you Matt! :)
Gender: We won't find out until late June and I CANNOT wait! We will be having a gender reveal party! Wooo Hooo!
Movement: Too early for that still.
Food Craving: Hamburgers...unfortunately we do not have a grill yet. That is def on our to do list.
What I miss: Sleeping through the night without having to get up to pee!
Sleep: I've had some weird dreams and sometimes the indigestion will keep me from faling asleep right away and I'm getting up often to pee. No Biggie.
What I am looking forward to: My cousin's wedding shower this weekend! Should be fun! And our 11 week appointment next Wednesday!
Symptoms: Exhaustion--but its slowly getting better. Smell aversions--I gag frequently and I cannot eat some foods based on smell. Mild nausea--much less frequent but I think its triggered by smell and indigestion. Indigestion--working on eating slower and having more "meals" in a day.

10 week pics will be updated soon :)
